Lumber

I have always liked picking out my own lumber. One of my pet peeves is a lumber company who will send me crooked lumber and think I can build a straight wall with it! I will cull that twisted and bent lumber right away and send it back. Usually with the statement of "why do I have to ask for straight lumber?"

Lumber deliveries are something to keep in mind when you order lumber. Most lumber companies with "drop" your load. Literally. The truck has a lift bed and they lift it and roll it off. It is dropped in the most convenient place available. Such as the street. So you better have a lot of guys to help you move it to the job site. Home Depot and Lowes deliver Lumber with a flat bed and a fork lift. They are always accommodating as to where I want the lumber placed. And I have also found them willing to match a lumber yards prices.

Now check your book for a lumber section. It will have much data on wood and what to look for when purchasing lumber. What do I look for? Straight lumber for straight walls. Ask for it by name. "Straight lumber please".
